The Duo is the first movement from Dancing with the Shadow, a 30-minute piece commissioned for dance by the group Lontano. There is a recurrence of material linking the movements and the ensemble expands throughout the work; the first movement is a duo, the second a trio and so on, culminating in the final sextet. The title suggests the conscious acceptance of the darker side of the human psyche in order to create transformation and unity in the individual.
